quote junkie

CONFESSION: I'm kind of a major quote junkie.

i LOVE quotes.
i love COLLECTING quotes.
i love DISCOVERING new quotes.

Today I will bless you with some of my favorites...
Here goes:

"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children...to find the best in others; to leave the word a little better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is the meaning of success." -Ralph Waldo Emerson

* * *

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

* * *

“We will naturally go downhill if we aren’t working extra hard to go uphill.” –Brother Kerry Muhlestein

* * *

"Nobody escapes this life without learning a thing or two about suffering...be hopeful and prayerful, things have a way of working out!" -Boyd K. Packer

* * *

"Don't cry because it's over...smile because it happened."
-Dr. Seuss

* * *

“No pain that we suffer, no trial that we experience is wasted. It ministers to our education, to the development of such qualities as patience, faith, fortitude and humility. All that we suffer and all that we endure, especially when we endure it patiently, builds up our characters, purifies our hearts, expands our souls, and makes us more tender and charitable, more worthy to be called the children of God … and it is through sorrow and suffering, toil and tribulation, that we gain the education that we came here to acquire.”
–Orson F. Whitney

* * *

"Carpe some Diem!!" -Dr. Zabriskie

* * *

“Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least.” –Goethe

* * *

“We who have come out of the world unto Christ by covenant have placed ourselves on a path that leads ultimately to eternal life.  We need to stay on the path, keep walking, and bounce up whenever we fall.  The Keeper of the Gate, the Holy One of Israel, has not placed a ceiling on the number of saved beings; rather, he is ready and willing to heal and empower and redeem and save all who desire these consummate blessings.  He is with us at the starting gate of life’s race, travels along the pathway with us, and waits at the finish line, not alone to certify us but, more important, to welcome us home.” – Robert Millet, Are We There Yet? 36

* * *

"ALWAYS BELIEVE THAT SOMETHING WONDERFUL IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN!"

* * *

"If people sat outside and looked at the stars each night, I'll bet they'd live life a lot differently."

* * *

"When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life.  When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.  I wrote down "happy".  They told me I didn't understand the assignment, and I told them they didn't understand life."
-John Lennon

lyrics and pictures that define my life.

Today we'll take a journey into my life.
[through song lyrics.]
[and pictures.]
here goes nothing:

***************************************************************************

"She gotta condition of the heart
a heart condition
So as a kid she had to adapt
to smarter livin'..."

****************************************************

"Even when you're gone
Somehow you come along
Just like a flower poking through a sidewalk crack and just like that
You steal away the rain and just like that
YOU MAKE ME SMILE!"

****************************************************************************

 "Country roads...
Take me home...
To the place I belong!"

******************************************************

"When you're the best of friends
Having so much fun together
You're not even aware, you're such a funny pair
You're the best of friends!"

******************************************************

"Jerusalem if I forget you
Let my right hand forget what its supposed to do..."

******************************************************

"We're loyal to you Poky High
We're the red and the blue Poky High
We'll back you to stand against the best in the land
For we know you have sand Poky High
RAH RAH!"
********************************************************************

"Gypsies, tramps and thieves
We'd hear it from the people of the town
They'd call us
Gypsies, tramps and thieves..."

*******************************************************************
"Run...
Running all the time...
Running to the future...
With you right by my side..."

*************************************************************************

"See the dog and butterfly
Up in the air he like to fly
Dog and butterfly below she had to try
She roll back down to the warm soft ground
Laughing to the sky, up to the sky
Dog and butterfly..."

****************************************************************
Cheers to pictures.
Cheers to music.
Cheers to life.

My parents are the coolest.

I don't know if everyone is aware...but I have the coolest parents ever.
the COOLEST
 hands down.

John Betting Hofman.
+
Kathleen Brown Hofman
=
The essence of cool.

Growing up, I heard them say a lot of things...sometimes funny, sometimes serious.
Today we're gonna take a walk down memory lane and remember some of the things they used to say!

Here we go:

Mom: "See ya in the morning's milk when the milkman comes!"

Dad: "It will stop hurting when you become a girl."

Mom: "You're a gentleman and a scholar."

Dad: "RALPH!" (every time he burps).

Me: "Hey!"
Mom: "Hay is for horses, straw is cheaper..."

Dad: "Upshkita!!"

Mom: "Well, well, well...it's a very deep subject."

Dad: "Put your finger in this..." (he always said this while holding a pair of pliers and other various tools that would hurt really bad to have your finger pinched with).

Mom: "What's your name?  Don't forget it!"

Dad: "Kimberly!  You stink!"

Mom: "Mooije...Meisje...I mean Sophie!!"

Dad: "As mayor of munchkin city, we welcome you most regally!"

Mom: "That is asinine!"

Dad: "Hi, I'm Big John!"

Mom: "We don't say hate!  Hate means you want to kill someone.  Do you really want to kill Sophie?"

Dad: "Hi grompa grompa grompa gromp..." (when talking to my baby nieces)

Mom: "Brittany...i mean Sophie...I mean Kimberly!"

Dad: "Hey punkin!" (when talking to us girls)

Mom: "Hey hun..." (when talking to Dad)

Dad: "One...twoooo...threeeeeeeee....." (you NEVER wanted to hear these words)

So there you have it...
Funny words. Serious words. Words.
 STRAIGHT
from the mouths of 2 of the
 COOLEST people you'll
 EVER meet.

I sure do love them.

Cheers to cool parents :)

10 minute blog.

So I have 10 minutes to write this blog post.
10 minutes before I gotta head to class...

10 MINUTES.

for some people, that's a real long time.
for others, that's a real short time.
for some situations, that's plenty of time.
for other situations, that's not enough time.

What can happen in 10 minutes?

Some people can run a mile in 10 minutes (some people = ME).
Some people can run 2 miles in 10 minutes (some people = STEVE PREFONTAINE).

Some people can take a shower in 10 minutes (some people = my brother-in-law Justin)
Some people can take 5 showers in 10 minutes (some people = ME).

Some people can shave 2 legs in 10 minutes.
Some people can shave 20 legs in 10 minutes.

Some people can write a paper in 10 minutes.
Some people can write the first paragraph of their paper in 10 minutes.
(in both of the above situations, some people = ME (depending on when the paper is due!)

Some people can drive to Lindon in 10 minutes.
Some people can barely get to the freeway entrance in 10 minutes.

Well readers...my 10 minutes are up!

Cheers to 10 minutes :)
